Description
Petitioners
John de Rutherwyk, Abbot of Chertsey.
Name(s)
de Rutherwyk, John
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Abbot of Chertsey
Nature of request
The abbot granted the manor of Henley and other land to William de Henley who subsequently enfeoffed the king's father with it, and the rent has been in arrears since the enfeoffment. The abbot has petitioned in parliament on this and an inquisition was held, but the king has granted the manor to Clinton, and the rent is still in arrears, so that the abbot requests that due execution of the inquisition is made so that he can be paid the rent and arrears.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is alleged by the petition that Clinton is tenant of the tenements, he should sue at the common law.
Places mentioned
Chertsey, [Surrey]
Henley, [Surrey]
Fremelesworth (Fremsworth), [Surrey].
People mentioned
William de Henle (Henley)
Hugh de Bourgh (Burgh)
William Husee (Husey)
William de Clynton (Clinton).
Note
The inquisition referred to in the petition (in response to the petition now at SC 8/12/560) was held in March 1327 (CIM 1307-49, no.984). Presumably the present petition was submitted soon thereafter.
