Note
A lengthy note on the guard dates this to? c. 1337 on the basis of the confirmation of the confirmation made in the charter rolls on 20 March 1337 (CChR 1327-41, pp.397-398). However, the guard note then goes on to discount this dating (and the attribution of the confirmation to this petition made in Cartulary of St Mary Clerkenwell, ed. by W.O. Hassall, Camden Third Ser., vol. LXXI, 1949, p.13, note b) suggesting that the charter roll confirmation was for SC 8/98/4859, and not for this petition. The guard note proposes that this petition represents an earlier unsuccessful attempt to obtain a confirmation, and on this basis the cautious dating of? c. 1337 is accepted.
