SC 8/157/7824
Date
[1328]
Description
Petitioners
William de Wassington.
Name(s)
de Wassington, William
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Wassington requests that the king will give his will on the matter of the lands of Seton which he requested at the last parliament and for which an inquisition was ordered, and which has now been returned into Chancery.1)
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.2) Let this petition be sent to Richard de B[Bury] so he can show it to the king and give his will.
Places mentioned
Northampton, [Northamptonshire].
People mentioned
Christopher de Seton
Richard de Bury.
Note
The petition is dated on the guard to c. 1307 on the basis of the reference within the petition to a petition presented at Northampton at the last parliament, the parliament being held there in October 1327. However, this seems to be erroneous. If this is a parliamentary petition it is likely to be one of those presented to the York parliament of July 1328, three months after the Northampton parliament. This is likely because of the second response which is one found on several petitions of c. 1328 whereby the petition is directed to Richard Bury, a close adviser of Edward III and later bishop of Durham.
