Reference
SC 8/156/7787
Date
[c. 1330]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Weston.
Name(s)
de Weston, Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Weston requests the grant of other lands for the lands granted to him by the king for his life for his service and which have been recovered by the countess of Kent and Richard Arundel
Nature of endorsement
It seems to the council that if he resides with the king's brother at the king's commandment, and the lands were given to him for that reason, and he has been ousted from these lands, then the king should grant him lands to the value.
Places mentioned
Milham, Norfolk
Kersey, Suffolk
Barstaple hundred, Essex.
People mentioned
John [of Eltham], earl of Cornwall
Edmund [Fitz Alan], earl of Arundel
[Edmund of Woodstock], earl of Kent
[Margaret], countess of Kent
Richard Daroundell (Arundel)
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1330 as it is clear that Edmund of Woodstock had been executed by this point (exec. 19 March 1330), and his widow had recovered her dower, part of the lands held by the petitioner being part of that dower. The petition cannot be later than 1336 when the earl of Cornwall died.
