Description
Petitioners
Villeins of the manor of Penrhos, Anglesey.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The villeins request that Grey be ordered to examine the extent of their manor or to extend it anew if he sees it is for the greater profit of the king to take what was paid before, or to take as much as they have in chattels, and that they go and purchase their sustenance elsewhere. They petitioned the king at Kennington when he was prince to redress the wrong done in the extent of their manor which was done, but now Sapy demands great sums from them and seized their meagre goods and chattels.1)
Nature of endorsement
They should have a day at Caernarfon on Thursday . . .2) Let the petition be sent to the justice of North Wales, and order him to inform himself of the ordinances made at Kennington concerning the people of Penrhos in the time of the king when he was prince of Wales which ordinances remain with the Chamberlain of Caernarfon under the prince's seal; and according to these ordinances he is to inform himself of what is contained in the petition and then certify the king, and in the meantime release the distresses made for the rent and arrears.

Caernarfon, [Caernarfonshire, Wales]

Note
The petition dates to 1315 as it must be contemporary with the writ that was issued in response to it which is dated 10 May 1315 (SC 8/156/7784), and because the petition was enrolled on the parliament roll in the Hillary parliament of 1315 (Rot. Parl., vol. I::pp.308b-9a (no.83)).
