Reference
SC 8/156/7783
Date
[? 1316]
Description
Petitioners
Mayor and commonalty of the city of Dublin.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[Petition in three parts].1) The mayor and commonalty request a reduction in their farm for two years because they had to burn their suburbs on the coming of the Scots.2) They request a writ to the treasurer and barons of the Dublin Exchequer to allow them to answer for their debts in the Exchequer.3) They request the grant of all escheats of money in aid of acquitting their farm.1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the first and last, coram rege.2) Concerning the second, nothing because it is against the law.
Places mentioned
Dublin, [Ireland].
Note
The petition probably dates to 1316 when the king pardoned them a portion of their farm for 4 years. However, the first part of the petition only requested a pardon for two years, so that it seems strange that the king should grant more than was requested (CPR 1313-17, p.471).
