Description
Petitioners
Abbot and convent of Kirkstall.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[The full sense of the petition is not clear because the petition has suffered considerable damage to its right-hand portion].The abbot and convent request that they are able to hold their manor of Barnoldswick in peace as despite several writs to the stewards of the chase of Blackburnshire that the manor is outside of the chase, and to surcease their demands on the abbot and convent, they continue to make such demands.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered to Giffard and the foresters that they supersede all exactions and release distraints.
Places mentioned
Yorkshire
[Blackburnshire] chase, [Lancashire]
[Barnoldswick, [Lancashire]].
People mentioned
Henry . . .
John de Bek, then steward [of the chase of Blackburnshire]
Geoffrey Lescrop (Scrope)
William de Herle
John Giffard, steward [of the chase of Blackburnshire].
Note
The petition appears to date to c. 1330 as it is likely to relate to a commission and grant concerning the abbot and convent's claims to the manor of Barnoldswick and its position outside of the chase of Blackburnshire (CPR 1330-4, pp.56, 70).
