Reference
SC 8/156/7754
Date
[? 1320]
Description
Petitioners
None.
Addressees
Lords of the council of the king.
Nature of request
A remedy is requested so that the customers are not able to deliver any ship or to make a coket of any wool without their counterroller, as the two foils of the coket seal are in the possession of two customers.
Nature of endorsement
Let this be shown to the treasurer and to Walter de Norwyz, and they are to do what they consider ought to be done.
Places mentioned
London.
People mentioned
Walter de Norwyz (Norwich).
Note
The petition is dated speculatively to 1320 on the basis of the dating of other petitions in this file, though no date was ascribed to this petition on the guard. The petition is endorsed in French which was more common after 1322. The date would be appropriate as Walter Norwich was chief baron of the Exchequer from 1312 until 1329, and was acting treasurer on several occasions until 1321 (Handbook of British Chronology, pp.104-5; Sainty, The Judges of England, p.91).
