Description
Petitioners
Denis le Merchaunt; . . .
Name(s)
Merchaunt, Denis
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Merchaunt and . . . request that the charter of pardon granted to St Remy of his abjuration be renewed and amended and the word trespass replaced with felony so that the heirs are able to have their lands out of the king's hand and that they should not be disinherited, the lands being taken into the king's hand because of these words, and because they do not have the originals which were burnt.1)
Nature of endorsement
They are to inform the king by the record, process and charter of pardon, and they should sue for the king's grace. And afterwards the rolls should be viewed as the petitioners called the record of the rolls of 22 Edw. I for the pardon, and rolls should be considered before etc. and the petition heard.2) After the viewing of the rolls, it seems to the auditors that because it was found by the rolls that the pardon of the abjuration was made by the late king for the trespasses to William, and his lands that were forfeited and the issues from them were rendered to him, but in the pardon mention was made only of trespass and not of felony, and that the king ought to grant of his grace of to amend the default and oust his hand from the lands and tenements.3) It also seems to the council, if it pleases the king. And afterwards the king granted that the default be corrected.4) Coram rege.
Places mentioned
