Reference
SC 8/155/7729
Date
[1310-1340]
Description
Petitioners
Commonalty of the . . .
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[Approximately half of the petition is completely illegible. Petition in 2 parts].1) The commonalty request . . . [The full sense is not recoverable, but seems to concern pleas of land and debt in court christian in prejudice of the king's dignity and to the disinheritance of the commonalty].2) The people request remedy [Again the sense of the petition is not recoverable].1)
Nature of endorsement
Those that were for the king should come into Chancery and show what they have in general and otherwise, and let a remedy be ordained. And those who have been aggrieved should have a remedy, and let a general prohibition be ordained of the things contained in the petition against the ordinary.2) Coram magno consilio because it is considered that a remedy is to be applied.
Places mentioned
Garboldisham, [Norfolk].
Note
The petition is speculatively dated to 1310-1340 on the basis of the hand. The more substantial response is in French which suggests a date after 1322.
