Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/155/7716
Date
[c. 1332]
Description
Petitioners
Prior of Bath.
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Prior of Bath
Nature of request
The prior requests remedy as . . . [he was granted] la Bertone near Bath rendering a farm at the Exchequer but the barons do not want to allow £20 because the counterfoils to certain tallies have been lost.
Nature of endorsement
He should have a writ in Chancery to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they are to do justice to him according to the petition.
Places mentioned
La Bertone (Barton Street, Bath), [Somerset]
Bath, [Somerset].
Note
The petition is clearly of Edward III's reign as it refers back to King Edward the king's grandfather. However the dating of c. 1332 is based on entries in the patent and close rolls which concern the prior and convent and the farm, but do not seem to relate to the actual petition, so the date is not confirmed by these references (CPR 1330-4, p.99; CCR 1330-3, p.459).
