Description
Petitioners
Archbishop of Canterbury.

Nature of request
The archbishop requests remedy as le Pestur was cleared of killing a man in Romney by purgation, according to the custom of the Cinque Ports, but he has been attached by the king's writ by the constable of Dover.
Nature of endorsement
Because the king has justice of life and limb within the ports and justice is done in his court of Shipway and not elsewhere in the ports as it is given to the king to understand, and that concerning the deaths of the two boys killed at Romney let justice be done at Shipway and the bailiff of the archbishop has the person of Romney appealed of the death to stand to right, saving the liberties of the archbishop that he hitherto has; and that the bailiff of the archbishop should be attached to answer the king of the trespass done by him at Romney as it is said.
