SC 8/154/7657
Date
[c. 1330]
Description
Petitioners
Abbot and convent of Kirkstall.
Addressees
[King and] council.
Nature of request
[The petition is badly damaged, and the full sense is difficult to recover].The abbot and convent request that they may be granted that they [are quit] of puture for the foresters of the chase of Blackburnshire as they have been distrained for it.
Nature of endorsement
They should sue in Chancery and there by fine have letters containing the effect of the writ and of their petition that the abbot and convent hold their manor of Barnoldswick which is out of the chase of Blackburnshire, as appears by the transcript of the same writ, quit and free of puture.
Places mentioned
Blackburnshire, [Lancashire]
Barnoldswick, [Lancashire].
Note
The petition appears to date to c. 1330 as it is likely to relate to a commission and grant concerning the abbot and convent's claims to the manor of Barnoldswick and its position outside of the chase of Blackburnshire (CPR 1330-4, pp.56, 70).
