SC 8/153/7644
Date
[? c. 1330-? c. 1331]
Description
Petitioners
John Strung.
Name(s)
Strung, John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioner requests [remedy] as he has been disseised of his land of Hook by . . . by his lordship . . . petitioner was of the quarrel of the earl of Lancaster . . .
Nature of endorsement
Let a writ be directed to the escheator that he certify in Chancery the reason for the taking of the lands into the king's hand, and when the certification has been returned let justice be done.
Places mentioned
La Hoke (Hook), [Wiltshire]
Lydiard Tregoze, [Wiltshire]
Wiltshire.
People mentioned
Thomas [of Lancaster, earl of Lancaster].
Note
The petition is dated to? c. 1330-1331 on the basis of the guard note. Though the hand fits this dating, it is not clear how such a narrow dating is arrived at, as another petition by the same petitioner is considerably later (Rot. Parl., vol. II, p.215b (no.42)), though the petition is likely to be after 1327 as it refers to the quarrel of Thomas of Lancaster. It is not clear whether the dating of this petition, with the group of petitions from 153/7641-9, is justified.
