Note
The petition is dated in the response to the petition to 14 October 1398 (Monday next after the feast of St Edward the Confessor, anno 22). The date is further confirmed by another petition by the same petitioner but styling himself as constable, and which is dated in a similar fashion to 22 November 1398 (SC 8/45/2202). The petition postdates the grant during pleasure, and the two grants for life of the office of constable to the petitioner made between July 1397 and September 1398 (CPR 1396-9, pp.171, 359, 423).
