Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/153/7606
Date
[1327-1333]
Description
Petitioners
Richard d'Everwyk (York).
Name(s)
d'Everwyk (York), Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[Petition in three parts].1) Everwyk requests, for his service as marshal in the Dublin Exchequer, a grant of the office of keeper of the writs and rolls and chirographer of the Dublin Bench for life.2) He requests a grant of the office of constable of Drogheda castle for life in satisfaction of a grant of the late king.3) He requests £4 annually granted to the marshal for robes as he has not received the sum.
Nature of endorsement
Let this petition be delivered to Richard de Bury so that he can show it to the king, and the king can give his will.
Places mentioned
Dublin, [Ireland]
Drogheda, [Ireland]
Ireland.
People mentioned
Richard de Bury.
Note
The petition dates to the period 1327-1333 because the response refers to the petition being delivered to Richard de Bury. Bury was a close adviser of Edward III in his early years until he became bishop of Durham in 1333 so that the petition must date to the period 1327-1333, and is probably contemporary with the number of petitions similarly endorsed. However, a patent roll entry might more closely date this petition to 1331 as the justice and chancellor of Ireland were commanded to present the petitioner to the first free benefice on 4 March 1331 (CPR 1330-4, p.98). This would support the dating of SC 8/152/7558.
