Description
Petitioners
John de St Walri (St Walery), son and heir of Richard de St Walery.
Name(s)
de St Walri (St Walery), John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[Petition in two parts].1) St Walri requests remedy as his father leased the manor of Hinton to the bishop of Chester for life, but St Walri has been disseised by Despenser and imprisoned.2) St Walri requests remedy as his father leased the manor of Fulbrook to the same bishop who in turn leased it to Despenser and St Walri is kept from his right, and now the manor is in the king's hand by Despenser's forfeiture.
Nature of endorsement
Let Despenser's muniments be searched to see if anything can be found for the king to bar the petitioner, and the king is to be advised to do right.
Places mentioned
Hinton Waldrist, Berkshire
Fulbrook, Oxfordshire.
People mentioned
Walter Langeton (Langton), bishop of Chester (bishop of Coventry and Lichfield)
Hugh le Despenser, the elder.
Note
The petition clearly dates to c. 1327 as the petitions are made for remedy against the elder Despenser, and it is clear that the petition has to be 1327 or shortly thereafter as the second request refers to the lands of the elder Despenser being forfeited to the king.
