Note (Additional information about the record)
- The petition has been dated to 1307-1326 as the petition is clearly of Edward II's reign referring to Edward, the king's father, and the reference to Ralph de Shirley as late sheriff of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire places the petition after 1303, when Shirley last held office (List of Sheriffs, p.102). As the petition is endorsed in French it is possible that the petition dates to after 1322 when French was most commonly used for responses.
