Date
[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
Richard de Skeryngton, clerk of Chancery.
Name(s)
de Skeryngton, Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[The petition has been badly stained].Skeryngton requests remedy as he was granted the custody of the hospital of the Holy Innocents in Lincoln, but believing it void the king has granted it to Carlton, and Skeryngton has nothing to live off.
Nature of endorsement
He should show what he has concerning the hospital, and let a writ be directed to the justices of the king's pleas containing the effect of the petition, and that they examine the matter, and do justice.
Places mentioned
Lincoln, [Lincolnshire].
People mentioned
William de [Carlton].
Note
The petition clearly dates to c. 1327 as an order was directed to the mayor and bailiffs of Lincoln to aid the petitioner in the collection of rents for the hospital, but a note was added that this had been vacated because 'in the Patents under another's name', and in the patent rolls the hospital had been granted to William de Carlton (CCR 1327-30, p.53; CPR 1327-30, p.11).
