SC 8/151/7543
Date
[c. 1334]
Description
Petitioners
Parsons of the churches of Our Lady of Rye, of St Thomas, and of St Giles of Winchelsea.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The parsons request remedy concerning the tithes of the fisheries that their predecessors as parsons, the abbots of Fecamp, used to receive, and which are withdrawn by the king's ministers.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered by writ of Chancery to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that they call the bailiffs of the king and hear their reasons of the parsons of the church named in the petition, and do justice to them upon the contents in the petition.
Places mentioned
Rye, [Sussex]
Winchelsea, [Sussex]
Fecamp, [Normandy, France].
People mentioned
Abbots of Fecamp.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1334 as a petition by the parson of the church of Rye on his own on the same matter dates to 1334, and it seems unlikely that this petition is too distant in time from it (Rot. Parl., vol. II::p.87b (no.61)).
