- The petition is dated to c. 1327 on the basis of several patent roll entries - commissions of oyer and terminer - placing the Whattons in association with Belers in criminal deeds. It seems unlikely that the petition can be too distant from these events (CPR 1327-30, pp.220, 279, 292).
