SC 8/151/7519
Date
[c. 1307]
Description
Petitioners
William de Welleby.
Name(s)
de Welleby, William
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[Petition in three parts].1) Welleby requests that the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer be ordered to make allowance for a sum he delivered to John de . . . since Welleby was bailiff of certain lands that were Gant's.2) He requests allowance for goods that he was ordered by writ of the Exchequer to deliver to the prior of Farleigh.3) He requests remedy for sheep and cows that were taken from him by the late sheriff of Lincolnshire against common law.4) He requests remedy as the king ordered that he be certified of Welleby's arrears but nothing has been done.5) He requests allowance of his costs that he incurred under command from the treasurer concerning the prior of Farleigh.
Nature of endorsement
He should have a writ of Chancery to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that when they have inspected the petition they should make allowance to the petitioner in accordance with the mandate of the king previously sent to them for the petitioner, a transcript of which is appended to this petition.
Places mentioned
Monkton Farleigh, [Wiltshire]
Lincolnshire.
People mentioned
John de . . .
Gilbert de Gaunt (Gant)
Prior of Monkton Farleigh
Thomas de Bourneham (Burnham), late sheriff of Lincolnshire.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1307 as it refers to events in 34 Edw. I (1305-6), and to Thomas de Burnham being the former sheriff of Lincolnshire, Burnham serving two terms from October 1305 to November 1307, and May 1309 to March 1310. It seems likely that the petition dates to between Burnham's two terms.
