John Watford, sergeant-at-arms, asks that for his long service to the King, his father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he might keep his wages and clothing from the hands of the Sheriffs of London and Middlesex, even though he is old, and is becoming blind and infirm.

Note
CPR 1436-41 p.220 is dated 13 November 1438, and CPR 1441-6 p.262 is dated 17 May 1444. The petitioner was clearly still alive in 1450, as Rot. Parl. vol. V p.187 shows, by which time, if he grew up in John of Gaunt's household (and was present with Somerset at Marck in 1405), he must have been at least 60. If this petition was presented by the Cardinal, however, it must date from before his death in 1447.
