Date
[c. 1341]
Description
Petitioners
Abbot of Westminster.

Occupation
Abbot of Westminster
Nature of request
[This petition is damaged] The Abbot of Westminster states that a tenement in Westminster called 'Roncesvalles tenement', which the Prior of Roncesvalles held of the Abbot, was seized into the King's hand in his twelfth year with the other possessions of alien religious throughout the realm, and that since then he has not received the rent for it. He [asks that he might receive it].
Nature of endorsement
The Abbot is to pursue his right at common law, and when it is found that the Abbot is impeded by the King's possession, a suitable remedy will be ordained for him.
Places mentioned
Westminster
Roncesvalles, [Navarre, Spain].
People mentioned
Prior of Roncesvalles (Rouncivall).
Note
This petition must postdate the seizure of the possessions of alien religious in 12 Edward III (25 January 1338-24 January 1339). From the hand, it would seem to be contemporary with SC 8/150/7456. The petition presumably relates to the property of the hospital of St Mary de Rouncivall at Charing Cross, a cell of Roncesvalles.
