Nature of request
This document consists of six petitions:1) Reginald de Wilyngton, parson of the church of Atherington, states that because his brother, John de Wilyngton, was in the quarrel of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, John Inge, formerly Sheriff of Devon, and his clerks, imprisoned him at Exeter until he had made fine with them, and carried off his goods and chattels. He requests a remedy in due fashion.2) Thomas de Wylington states that because he was with John de Wilyngton in the quarrel of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, Robert de Astone carried off his goods and chattels from his land at Ashleworth in Gloucestershire. And that when he had a writ from the King to Robert to return his lands to him, he had to pay a fine for this, and Robert kept the issues in the meantime. He also makes a similar complaint against John Everard, Keeper of the forests in Devon, and requests a remedy.3) Thomas de Herpathe, valet of John de Wilyngton, states that when he was with John de Wilyngton in the quarrel of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, John Everard took goods and chattels from his lands in Devon, and that he had to pay him a fine to have the lands back. He requests a remedy.4) Ralph de Wylington states that when he was with John de Wilyngton in the quarrel of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, John Giffard of Leckhampton took his goods and chattels. He requests a remedy.5) Ralph de Wylington also states that when he had a writ from the King to Robert de Hongerford to return his lands to him, he had to pay a fine for this. He requests a remedy.6) [The petition of John de Coulston is illegible, but the name of John Giffard is mentioned, and it was probably similar.]

Note
From Reginald de Wilyngton's mention of the 'good and loyal quarrel' of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, but from the fact that Edward II is always called 'the King', never 'the late King' or 'the King your father', this petition would seem to date from 1326-1327. John Inge was Sheriff of Devon from 30 November 1321 to 30 May 1322.
