[This petition is damaged.]John Warddieux makes two petitions:1) He states that states that Simon Warde, Sheriff of Rutland, expelled him from . . . assizes for four years, and that Simon has delayed him by colour of his office . . . contrary to the statute, although he has nothing in the county except by dissesin, to the great harm of the King and the common people. he asks that he might be deprived of the office of Sheriff and of Steward of Oakham, and that some more suitable person might be appointed in his place.2) He states that he has been accused before Peter atte Wode, lieutenant . . . Justice of the Forest of Rutland of cutting down branches to the value of £3 over six years, which have been paid in . . . before the council that they were cut down by people of the vills to feed game in time of . . . as has always been customary. he requests mainprise until the Eyre, or that he might make fine and be restored . . . disinherited of the said bailiwick, as it is seized into the King's hand for that reason, and John expelled.

Simon Warde was Sheriff of Rutland between 12 December 1374 and 26 November 1377. Tentatively dated to 1376 with regard to that and to C 49/43/10, dated 50 Edward III (25 January 1376-24 January 1377), which mentions 'peticiones Johannis Wardieu'.
