Description
Petitioners
Robert de Wakefeld (Wakefield).
Name(s)
de Wakefeld (Wakefield), Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Robert de Wakefeld states that when he impleaded Gilbert, son of John le Blake of Lincoln, for various trespasses, they came to an agreement that Gilbert would pay Robert £60, on a security to be devised by Robert. And because Gilbert had no chattels from which to pay this, except for tenements leased to Henry de Seuerby, it was agreed that he would make a recognisance for £60 under statute merchant to Henry le Cheingner, merchant, and that Henry would bind himself to pay this sum to Robert. But Henry, in collusion with Gilbert, Henry de Seuerby and John Poingnant, chaplain, privately made a letter of acquittance to Gilbert for the £60, to bar Robert from his debt. He requests a remedy.
