Description
Petitioners
John West of Chelmscote, and Richard West his brother.
Name(s)
West; West, John; Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
John West of Chelmscote, and Richard his brother, state that they had rented winter pasture and easement on the lands of Richard de Lymesy, rebel and contrariant, and that their sheep there were taken into the King's hands together with his possessions. They assure the King that they are not rebels, or adherents of Richard de Lymesy or others, as has been found by inquisition, and request the return of the sheep, together with their issue, and the bodies of those that are dead.
Nature of endorsement
The inquisition is to be examined in Chancery, and, according to the inquisition, what is just is to be done in this matter.
Places mentioned
Chelmscote, Warwickshire.
People mentioned
Richard de Lymesy, knight.
Note
The writ for CIM 1307-49 no.469 is dated 17 February 1322: this is probably the inquisition mentioned by the petition. CCR 1318-23 p.440 is dated 9 May 1322, and is clearly the result of the petition.
