Description
Petitioners
Maud de Wycombe.
Name(s)
de Wycombe, Maud
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Maud de Wycombe requests a charter of the King's peace for Walter le Vaus of Oxford, clerk, her son, and that he might fulfil the grace he gave him at her suit in the last war in Scotland. He has been imprisoned for six years in Northampton because he was appealed of robberies committed in Herefordshire by William Montryg, formerly Prior of Northampton, who repudiated the appeal and died; and he has never been able to have any deliverance.
Nature of endorsement
William Inge and his companions, before whom the appeals [and records] against the same Walter in the aforesaid county and in various other counties remain, are to be ordered by writ of [Chancery] to have those appeals brought before John Butetourte etc. And John Butetourte and his companions are to be ordered that, when they have received those appeals and records, they are to proceed to his deliberation according to the law and custom of the realm. To the last [petition: this petition seems to be one of a number on the same sheet of parchment, or possibly 'finally']: nothing because living.Expedited.

Note
Dated on the guard to '? c. 1305' with reference to the names of the justices and to SC 8/148/7371. The petitioner herself, apparently, is granted an oyer et terminer on 20 May 1310, on complaint of imprisonment at Northampton (CPR 1307-13 p.260). There is no record of a William Montryg as Prior of St James' Priory, Northampton: he was probably Prior of the Cluniac Priory of St Andrew's.
