Geoffrey de Welleford, Warden of the House of St Cross near Winchester, states that a letter of the privy seal was sent to the Sheriff of Hampshire, to cease execution of the exigent in an oyer et terminer which he had sued against Robert de Maydenstan and other malefactors, because the King was told that all the malefactors were in his service; when in fact only two of them were in the King's service, and that after the exigent was awarded. Coram rege. The justices are to be ordered that the suit is to be re-summoned, notwithstanding the writ of privy seal, and that they are to proceed in the suit etc. if it is at Geoffrey's suit; and if it is at the King's suit there is to be no writ.

Note
The background to this petition is clearly a dispute about rights of presentation to this hospital between the King and the Bishop of Winchester: CCR 1318-23 p.384 (16 June 1321), p.385 (28 June 1321), pp.491-492 (12 July 1321) and p.496 (10 September 1321), and CPR 1321-4 p.57 (4 September 1321). This petition would seem to come from a later stage in the proceedings.
