Nature of request
Peter de Witingham states that his ship, sailing in the Forth between the Isle of May and Dunbar last Pentecost, was captured by John de Enefeld's people, who took it to Berwick where they took the goods in it to John's house, sold the ship, and imprisoned the crew. Peter had to buy the ship back, but he has never recovered any of the goods. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
To the second [this petition is clearly the second of two, formerly on one piece of parchment]: Coram rege.The Keeper and Chamberlain of Scotland are to be written to that, when they have called the parties before them and heard the arguments on both sides, they are to do justice if it can be done without consulting the King; and if not, the King is to be informed of this. And they are to inquire if the said goods are forfeit to the King or not, and into whose hands they have come.
