Nature of request
Three near-identical petitions, from John Wolde, clerk, and John Reche, from William Brynkeley, and from Joan, widow of John Whaplode, all making the same complaint. They state that they were seised of various tenements in London until the King's second year, when they were expelled by John Marchall, Agnes Crosby and Thomas Bradwas, by colour of the King's letters patent granted to them. They have long sued to have a scire facias on this matter, but cannot, as Joan Jordan, formerly possessor of these tenements is claimed to have been a lifelong idiot - although this is not true. They ask the commons to ask the King to order the Chancellor and justices to do to them what the common law demands, as they have been delayed in their suit for a year and a half.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] To be answered. To speak. The lords should speak to the King.[On dorse] This petition is to be sent into the King's Chancery, and the Chancellor will do justice to them concerning the matter contained in it.

Note
8/148/7354 makes it clear that the related SC 8/117/5823 (together with SC 8/117/5822) was presented to the parliament of 5 Henry IV (January 1404). The petitioners were disseised of their tenements by grants of 4 May 1401 and 11 July 1401 (CPR 1399-1401 p.514 and p.525). This petition must therefore have been presented at the only parliament between 1401 and 1404, that of September 1402. This would also accord reasonably well with their claim to have been kept out of their tenements for a year and a half.
