Description
Petitioners
Benedict Wilman and William Calbruge (Galbrigge).
Name(s)
Wilman; Calbruge (Galbrigge), Benedict; William
Addressees
Lords of parliament.
Nature of request
Benedict Wilman and William Calbruge state that on Wednesday 14 October last they were arrested in Southwark by certain ministers of the King's and given into the custody of the Mayor and Sheriffs of London without any reason being shown to them, and were kept in prison until they were delivered by a writ to John Arnold, sergeant-at-arms and John Dunnesby, esquire, to be brought before the King; and last Wednesday they were brought here to Coventry, and then to Kenilworth, where they are kept in prison and fear that they will not be brought to answer. Benedict states that he was maliciously accused at the last parliament at Westminster, and by the petitions of the commons, not at common law, and that he had a day in the King's Bench at the quinzaine of Michaelmas last, before which he and William, one of his mainpernors, were arrested. They ask the lords to ask the King to have them brought before him in the present parliament, to answer any accusations made against them.

Note
CPR 1401-5 p.503 is dated 10 October 1405, presumably before the petitioner's arrest on 14 October. The reference to Coventry (where the 1406 parliament was originally summoned) and the mention of the present parliament, suggests that this petition can be dated to the parliament of 1406.
