Description
Petitioners
Hugh de Waltham and Christina de Waltham his wife, of London.
Name(s)
de Waltham; de Waltham, Hugh; Christina
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Hugh de Waltham and Christina his wife, of London, state that Christina was disseised of the manor of Lillingstone Lovell, with which she was enfeoffed by the feoffees of her late husband, and that she recovered it by an assize of novel disseisin, but that before she could have execution of this, firstly, the Escheator wrongly alleged that her husband had died seised of it, and that part of it was held of the King as of his crown, and secondly, John de Newenham, clerk, brought an assize of novel disseisin against them in Oxfordshire, wrongly recovered the manor, and enfeoffed the King with it; and it is now in the hands of Alice Perrers. They have thus sued for fifteen years for this manor, and request a remedy.

Note
Dated to c. 1376, with reference to CIM 1349-77 no.902 and the reference to the lapse of 15 years. The writ for CIM 1349-77 is dated 28 May 47 Edward III (1373), and the inquisition finds that Christina recovered seisin of the manor in July 1362, after it had been held by the men who disseised her for a year: if fifteen years is reckoned either from 1361 or 1362, this puts the petition at 1376-1377. Unlike most petitions against Perrers, it seems likely to be from before the death of Edward III - there is no mention of 'the late King' or 'your grandfather' - so has been dated to c. 1376, the year of the Good Parliament in which Perrers was disgraced.
