SC 8/148/7358
Date
[1385-1397]
Description
Petitioners
Alice de Wyndesore (Windsor, Perrers), widow of William de Wyndesore, knight.
Name(s)
de Wyndesore (Windsor, Perrers), Alice
Addressees
King and lords of parliament.
Nature of request
Alice, widow of William de Wyndesore, knight, states that a judgment was brought against her in the parliament of the King's first year and her lands and tenements seized into the King's hand, and that she she and her husband then sued to recover them, and recovered them, except for four manors, in exchange for finding 100 men at arms to go overseas at their own cost. However, when the charter for these lands should have been made to William and Alice and their heirs, William arranged for it to be made to himself and his heirs only, for lands and tenements which had belonged to Alice, so that she is disinherited. She asks that the charter might be redelivered and annulled, and the lands and tenements taken back into the King's hand and Alice and her heirs enfeoffed with them - especially as she and her friends paid the full costs of the men at arms.
Nature of endorsement
The King wills, with the advice of the lords in parliament that the matter included in this petition is to be fully examined by the justices and then an report given on it by the said justices to the Chancellor and Treasurer.
People mentioned
William de Wyndesore, knight
[Thomas of Woodstock], Earl of Buckingham, Duke of Gloucester.
Note
Datable to 1385-1397 from the reference to the 'Earl of Buckingham, now Duke of Gloucester'.
