Nature of request
Matthew son of William son of Robert de Wolferton states that when he and his companions had charged a ship of Zealand at King's Lynn with wools and other goods for Zierikzee in Zealand, John Arthur and others from Hartlepool attacked the ship off Cromer, drove all but one of those on board off the ship, and took the ship to Hartlepool, where they still hold it. Matthew and the others have often asked for restitution of their goods, but have not been able to have either restitution or justice because of the franchise of the Bishop of Durham. He requests a remedy.
