Note
Walter Stapledon was Treasurer of England between February 1320 and August 1321, and between May 1322 and July 1325. He was Bishop of Exeter between 1308 and 1326. The petition describes him as 'nadgairs evesque de Excestre, Tresourier nostre dit seigneur le roi', which suggests a date of 1327 (he is neither Bishop nor Treasurer, but the petition seems to be addressed to Edward II rather than Edward III). It is just possible that it may be earlier, and mean only that he is a former Treasurer - but this is not likely. The name of the manor concerned is indistinct, and the name of the county where it lay is now illegible.
