Nature of request
John de Wyncestre and Joan his wife state that £104 is demanded from them in the Exchequer as heirs and terre-tenants of John Fitz Thomas, formerly Keeper of the New Forest, for windfallen wood and failure to hamble, although they held no lands or tenements from him nor have any lands or tenements of his come to them after his death. They ask the King and council to order the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to inquire into this by people of the county of Hampshire, and, if they find that they hold no lands or tenements that belonged to John Fitz Thomas, to discharge them from this demand.
Nature of endorsement
It seems that this petition is reasonable; therefore he is to have a writ to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to inquire into the points contained in this petition, and further to do justice according to what will be found to discharge them in this regard, notwithstanding the estreats of the same Exchequer.
