Description
Petitioners
Ralph de Wilintone.
Name(s)
de Wilintone, Ralph
Addressees
Chancellor.
Nature of request
Ralph de Wilintone states that his lands and tenements at Shrivenham in Berkshire were taken into the King's hand, and his goods and chattels there carried off by the Sheriff, because his father had rebelled against the King - although he had no fee or frank tenement in these lands, which were Ralph's own purchase, and he had been in peaceful seisin of them long before any rebellion. And because he was never with the rebels he requests a writ to the Sheriff and to Robert de Hungerford, to inquire into the matter, and if it is found that he is guilty of no trespass against the King, and that the land was his and no-one else's on the day it was taken, he asks that he might have deliverance of the land and his chattels.
Nature of endorsement
John de Foxle and John de Stonore, or either of them together with another liege of the King's, are to be appointed to inquire into the contents of the petition; and nevertheless the Sheriff is to be ordered to inform the King of the manner and cause of the seizing etc. And justice is further to be done.
Places mentioned
