Nature of request
Stephen Worlyk, John White and William de Berford, state that Alice Gerberge, daughter of William de Berford, was married to Stephen Worlyk, with her own and her father's consent, and lived happily with him for four years until she was forcibly abducted by John Brewes, Sheriff of Norfolk, and others, at the procurement of William Curson of Billingford, with whom she is now living. They have incited her to sue an appeal of rape against her husband, her father and others who were at her wedding, and have indicted them of felony, through a conspiracy between William Curson, William de Wychyngham and Richard his son. William Curson has also sued for a divorce in the Court of Arches between Alice and Stephen, and has had two notaries draw up false notarial instruments to this end. They ask that Stephen might have his wife back, and damages, and that the notaries might be summoned before the council in parliament to answer for their actions.
