Reference
SC 8/145/7250
Date
[? 1381-? 1382]
Description
Petitioners
Poor people of Wales.
Addressees
King and lords of parliament.
Nature of request
The petitioners ask that henceforth no one might be appointed Justice of North Wales or of South Wales who is not sufficiently learned in the law, and of good standing, and of sufficient wealth that he does not need to live by extortion, as the poor people of those parts are very far from the succour and aid of the law if they are wronged.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
North Wales
South Wales.
Note
Dated on the guard to '? 1381-2', without further explanation. This date is consistent with the hand and the language, but the date of 1321-1322 tentatively suggested by Petitions Relating to Wales p.245 is surely too early.
