Name(s)

King and council.
Nature of request
William Vaghan, executor of Thomas Vaghan of Shrewsbury, states that on the Wednesday after the feast of St Lawrence in the King's seventh year, Thomas Vaghan and other merchants charged a ship to go overseas with their merchandise, and that on the following Tuesday it was robbed off Gravelines, by men of the Count of Flanders. Thomas found and claimed his wool, and sued to the Count for its return, but the Count has done nothing. William requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
He is to sue the process in use in Chancery in this case.

Gravenyng (Gravelines), [Flanders, France]
Flanders.
People mentioned
Thomas Vaghan (Vaughan) of Shrewsbury.
Note
The original attack took place in August, 7 Edward II (1313), but the merchant robbed has since died. This petition must date from between that time and 1327. A note on the guard dates it to '? c. 1322', without further explanation.Petitions Relating to Wales p.244 dates the petition to '? 1314' but mistakenly says that it is from Thomas Vaghan.
