Nature of request
William Vaucer, also known as William Hesill, goldsmith of Boston, states that he sued the Abbot and convent of Bourne in Common Bench for a debt which they owed him, and also in the Pope's chamber, before Louis, Bishop of Volterra, the Pope's collector in England. The collector heard the case, and condemned the Abbot and convent to pay the debt. For this reason, William did not sue further in Common Bench; but the Abbot and convent, to delay the case, purchased a prohibition to the collector on the basis of this non-suit. William was advised by the collector to sue for a consultation; but in the meantime the Abbot bribed him to acquit him of the debt: which he did, so that William is now barred from his debt, if he does not have the King's aid. William asks the King to consider the collector's deceit, and to ordain such a remedy that he might recover his debt, and damages from the Collector.
