Nature of request
Robert de Tauton states that he was presented to the church of Haddenham by John de Hothum, Bishop of Ely, who had the advowson, when the church was vacant because Geoffrey de Pagenham had been deprived of it for a crime. Robert sued before the Official of the Court of Canterbury concerning that crime, but Geoffrey and some accomplices, to delay his suit, made a suggestion to the King's court that the church was of the advowson of Ralph de Walpol, late Bishop of Ely, and obtained a writ to the official to cease the plea, on the supposition that the advowson was in question. Robert acquired a consultation, but Geoffrey in the meantime had been able to sue to the Court of Rome. Robert claims that he is likely to lose his suit and his advancement, and requests a remedy, for the future punishment of such deceptions.
