Nature of request
John de Triple states that the King's Treasurer has given orders, by writ of the Exchequer, to seize a tenements with shops in the parish of St Mary Magdalene, Old Fish Street, belonging to the petitioner, into the King's hand, and to answer for it to the King and to the Warden of the Hospital of St James by Westminster, whereas the tenement and shops never belonged to the Warden, and were not held of him, or charged with any rent to him or to the hospital, and they never have been. He asks that he might not be expelled from his free tenement in this way, or charged with any farm or rent for it, without a writ at common law, or due inquisition, where he may be a party and have his response.

He is to sue the said Warden at common law, and if the King has put his hand there for that reason, it is to be removed.

CCR 1354-60 p.49 is dated 26 December 1354, and probably provides the reason for the seizure of this tenement. There is a mention of John Triple in the same volume, p.327 (23 November 1356).
