Nature of request
William de Tatham, formerly Edward II's receiver in Westmorland and Cumberland, states that he had a writ to pay wages to various people, on information provided by Henry de Malton, Keeper of the King's castles and lands in those parts, and accordingly paid wages to men at arms and hobblers for the defence of the castles of Appleby and Skipton against the Scots, who raided those parts several times between the feast of St James, 15 Edward II and the following Martinmas (July-November 1321). He has had no allowance for these wages, and a writ has been issued to levy them from his goods and chattels. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered to give the said William an allowance in his account at the Exchequer for the customary wages for the castles, lands and tenements contained in this petition, and for other reasonable expenses according to the information provided by the said Henry, and which the said William paid on the said Henry's information.

Note
Dated on the guard to '? c. 1335' without further explanation. This date would, however, accord with the hand, the language, and the reference to the events of 15 Edward II.
