Nature of request
The Abbot of Tilty states that the Sheriff of Essex has instructions from the Exchequer to levy a debt owed to the merchants of Lucca, which the King's father had seized into his hand, although that debt was paid in the King's father's twenty-fourth year, and letters of acquittance given, which were examined and enrolled in the Exchequer in the Michaelmas term of the present King's eleventh year. A process is pending before the Treasurer and Barons on this, and the Abbot has been adjourned to this parliament. He requests the King's grace on the matter, and states that the merchants are deceiving the King.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.The Treasurer and Barons were ordered to provide information about the reason, and it was attested by the Barons of the Exchequer that the acquittance was made after the debts of the merchants were taken into the King's hand, and that the Abbot knew that that acquittance was made in deception of the King.

CFR 1327-37 p.76 is dated 10 March 1327, and would seem to be a response to this petition. The petition is clearly addressed to Edward II.
