Description

Reginald de Thunderle.
Name(s)
de Thunderle, Reginald
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Reginald de Thunderle states that he had purchased a messuage in London from Edmund, Earl of Cornwall, but that Joan, widow of Richard de Wyrhale, brought a writ of dower in the hustings of London, and claimed a third of the messuage. Reginald claimed that he could not answer without the King, the kinsman and heir of Edmund, Earl of Cornwall, but Joan has brought a writ to the Mayor and Sheriffs of London, to proceed in the matter without any consideration for this, so that he is on the point of losing a third of his messuage. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] To Adam de Osegoteby by J. de Kirkby.[On dorse] He is to show his charter before the council. After examination of the charter before the council, it seems to them that the King is bound to warranty; and the Mayor and Bailiffs of London are to be ordered by a writ of Chancery that, when they have called the woman before them in the presence of Ralph de Hengham, they are to inquire fully into her right; and if they find that she has a right, they are to give her satisfaction, and the King will give them an allowance in their farm. And they are to have a writ of Chancery to allow this to them in their account.
