Description
Petitioners
John Fitz Thomas.
Name(s)
Fitz Thomas, John
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
John Fitz Thomas petitions on behalf of David Fitz Gerald, who was in the King's service in John's company in Scotland and Ireland, and endured great losses there, and asks that he might be pardoned the arrears of his account from the time when he was Sheriff of County Kerry, as the wars with the Irish there are preventing the levying of this money.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is attested by John de Hothum that he gave him great aid in those parts, and that on this account he led him to hope that the King would pardon him of part of his debt, and that he would allow him to pay the rest in instalments, it seems, if it pleases the King, that he should be pardoned half of the debt, and should pay the rest in instalments, as has been said above. It pleases the King.
Places mentioned
Scotland
County Kerry, Ireland.
People mentioned
David Fitz Gerald, formerly Sheriff of County Kerry
John de Hothum.
Note
CCR 1313-18 p.285 is dated 16 May 1316, and is clearly in response to this petition.
