Thomas de Torneye states that on his return from Wales, where he was performing the service which Gilbert de Bulebek owed the King on his last expedition there, he was imprisoned at Aylesbury, on suspicion of a robbery against John de Seynt Omer, of which he is not guilty, and is being held there by a letter under the privy seal, ordering the Sheriff not to release him. He states that he is almost dead from ill-treatment, and asks that he might have his jury at common law.
Nature of endorsement
A writ is to be issued for the two men imprisoned at Aylesbury: and this is not to be neglected because of the command under the little seal.It is to be inquired into by the justices, by a good jury.
